About Sarah

Hi everyone, I would like to introduce myself and share a little bit of my story with you. I’m Sarah, it’s nice to meet you all.

As, an adolescent I dreamt of having long straight hair like my grandmother and namesake Sarah. She had long, silky, smooth, salt and pepper hair, and one of my fondest memories of her was how she loved for me to brush her hair, it was long and oh-so soft, and little did she know that I enjoyed brushing her hair more than she did.

So, in my late teens I started getting my hair relaxed every 6 to 8 weeks to smooth and straighten my hair, for years my hair looked so healthy and smooth to touch then one day out of the blue my hair broke off, the texture changed, and my scalp started producing dandruff excessively.

I was diagnosed with central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia (CCCA), and was told that my hair loss was more than likely permanent. CCCA is a progressive disease which in some cases could lead to permanent hair loss, as it turns out, the relaxers contained synthetic chemicals including formaldehyde and methylene glycol, which years later were deemed unsafe by the Federal Drug Administration.

The FDA citing high concentration of these chemicals, overuse of the hair product and inadequate ventilation during application was the cause of progressive and most likely permanent hair loss. Which basically translated into everyone was to blame, the product maker, the stylist, and the uninformed consumer.

It’s said that confidence is everything, but I lost my confidence right along with my hair. And then I came to believe that confidence is all about believing in yourself and feeling comfortable in your true self and I knew in my heart of hearts that I would overcome it and that there was a higher power who was Absolute, Almighty, Amazing and Awesome there to walk me through it.
